Evergreen or Stale?
It is suggested to make your passive information products evergreen – that is, always relevant and timely. In doing so you can produce little money machines. Why? Because if you create an excellent product once and it is as evergreen as possible, you do not have to go back every 2 months and update it. For instance the medical field is a rapidly changing area; foods that were good for you can go to the bad list and back to good for you within a year.
So starting with the niche you have chosen write down the subjects you already know about. Then narrow it down to your favorites – and sit down with a notepad.
- Make two vertical columns by drawing a line down the page.
- Now make your headings. One should be “Things That Can Change” and the other should be something like “Constants”.
- Think of your subject & write anything you would like to put into your product in the appropriate columns.
This way, when you’re ready to write your information product, you can be sure to focus on the “Constants” column – and cut out as many of the “Change” column (unless a point is crucial, of course.)
Be sure that you do not overdo the cutting; you do not want a stale product. There’s a powerful alternative to putting in time-relevant detail. Instead, look for the juicy extra `twist’ – the fact about your subject no one knows yet, or talks about. (TIP: Your local library may be a particularly rich offline source.)
There are some topics and niches that are going to change.
- Cars
- Small household devices
- Internet security
- Internet businesses
- Computers
So if that is your niche or topic stay up to date and maybe send out an e-mail to those who have purchased your product when something major changes. (Customer Service).
Some things are more constant.
- Recipes
- Books
- Gardening, etc.
So you will not need to refresh your product as often. If your sales drop off though that is great time to review it and see if it is time for an updated version.
Always Progressing…
